It was established with the foundation of Madarsatul-Uloom Musalmanan at Aligarh in 1875, which became Mohammadan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College in 1877 and became full-fledged Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 1920 The library building in Mob Quadrangle, dating from 1373, is the oldest continuously functioning library for university academics and students in the world. Over 400 years - and several library sites - later, the College opened one of the largest and most modern college libraries in Oxford in October 2019 with its new Library & Study Centre
